If I would arrive in or leave the Netherlands (and stayed longer than or will stay longer than 4 months), when and where do I need to register?

 

Any migration (arrival / leaving) needs to be registered at the municipality (Town Hall) within 5 days.

When do I need to file the Dutch income tax return?  

​

In general, a return must be filed before May 1 of the following year to avoid penalties or unwanted fees. Before the deadline a special request can be made through a tax advisor to postpone the filing date by 12 months.

Do I need to file a Dutch tax return for my (non-working) partner as well?

​

Yes. You can and you should. You may reduce your total income tax liability by preparing the Dutch income tax returns jointly. You are able to share certain costs and assets (if applicable) between both tax returns.

Did you know that the government has created a mailbox for you (residents of the Netherlands)?

​

If you have not yet activated your government mailbox, then please go to www.mijnoverheid.nl and activate it with your DigiD code. The DigiD code is provided by the government to be used for governmental (such the Tax authorities) or for municipality issues. If you have not yet obtained your DigiD code, please go to the following link.
